The psycho-oncology program is multidisciplinary team who provide high-quality, evidence-based, psychosocial care within the CCC.
The team are highly knowledgeable in the areas of child and adolescent development, mental health, cognitive development, and the impact of paediatric oncology diagnosis and treatment. We are committed to working closely with families, carers, and other health care professionals to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Our Comfort First, Art Therapy, and Mental Health clinicians work with oncology patients who are currently undergoing treatment. These clinicians can assist with areas including procedural support, emotional support, and adjustment to diagnosis and hospital.
This may include screening and assessment of psycho-social needs, exploring and supporting the development of coping skills and psychological well-being, emotional regulation, and developing agency in children and young people.
Our Neuropsychology clinicians assist children, young people and their families to better understand thinking and learning abilities. They also provide information on how to compensate for any cognitive changes that may arise following an oncology diagnosis and treatment.
The psycho-oncology team also provide consultation and training to the treating team and wider CCC.
Referrals to the psycho-oncology program are made via the patients treating team. These services are all free of charge. Interpreter services for all teams can be arranged.
Our art Therapy, mental health, and neuropsychology teams all provide university student placements. If you are keen to learn from us, ask your university to contact the relevant team to discuss options.
